There's so much we could tell you about Basingstoke and the surrounding area, from the historic towns to the wonderful countryside.  The many varied and excellent shops, the museums, the gardens, the restaurants and wonderful places to stay. Many would like to know about the historic sites, the famous people and buildings?  Or do you need us to tell you how easy it is to travel here and how Basingstoke can make an excellent location to explore Hampshire and Southern England.

Basingstoke is the largest town in Hampshire, an historic market town with many interesting and unusual buildings. Life here is a mix of the old and the new, historic buildings next to modern offices.  Old traditional crafts alongside new hi-tech business.

We are a green town with many parks and open spaces and we are surrounded by wonderful countryside and picturesque villages.  Places like Watership Down are only minutes away and there's ancient woodland at Pamber Forest. We have won awards in 'Britain in Bloom' competition many times.  There's always a blaze of colour all around the town, houses with baskets of blooms, parks and public areas a rich spectrum of radiant colours.

If the outdoors is your love then what better place to be. There are so many different environments to take a walk or to cycle.  A leisurely stroll along the Basingstoke canal or in Crabtree Plantation for some. Or for the more energetic a challenging walk through the north Hampshire hills.

As a base Basingstoke is hard to beat.  London is less than hour by train, bringing all the attraction of the capital within easy reach.  With the ancient capital of England Winchester only 30 minutes away and you’re less than hour from the coast, with Portsmouth, Southampton and Bournemouth all within easy reach.  If you drive then Bath, Bristol and Oxford are less than 90 minutes drive as well as other attractions such as Legoland, Marwell Zoo and Birdworld a short drive away.

So forget the stereotypical image of Basingstoke come and have a look for yourself.  No matter what you are looking for whether it’s a short break or something a bit longer Basingstoke and North Hampshire will appeal to everyone, young or old. At any time of the year.
