The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has reacted angrily to a provisional decision by the Competition Commission to lift price controls on the four main business banks. This is despite strong evidence that they are not complying with undertakings they signed up to in 2002.

As A-level exam results are published, the Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has congratulated students on their success but has also reminded them that starting their own business may be much more rewarding for them than going to University.

Only a quarter of small business owners have a degree (27.7%) with nearly half (48.4%) having GCSE or equivalent and professional qualifications instead.  An eighth of entrepreneurs (12.7%) have no formal qualifications at all.

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has highlighted the significant numbers of small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) being deterred from e-commerce, following a report by the House of Lords Science & Technology Committee.  Despite the fact that the geographical reach of the Internet makes it possible for SMEs to compete in the global market at low cost, just 18% of SMEs are selling on-line.  Less than one percent of those derive all of their sales through the Internet.
 
Government regulators must be accountable, says FSB PDF Print E-mail

The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) has called on the Government to ensure that its regulations and regulatory bodies are transparent, accountable, consistent and act in a targeted and proportionate way.

 

The overall aims of the Government’s plans, contained in the Draft Regulators’ Compliance Code and the Draft Regulatory Enforcement and Sanctions Bill, are welcomed by the FSB as a step in the right direction to reduce the red tape burden on small firms.  However, the FSB believes that there are still improvements to be made to the draft documents.

Police in Basingstoke are appealing for information after several high value power tools were stolen during a burglary at Keyline Builders Merchant.

The Rankine Road store was entered sometime between 5.30pm on Wednesday, August 8 and 6.15am on Thursday, August 9.
