The Mill Field Local Nature Reserve
Once agricultural land, this site is now managed for wildlife by the Mill Field Conservation Group. For more information on the conservation group contact Anne Francis on 01256 817637 or via email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .
Various species of flora and fauna can be found on the site, including bee orchids, little egret, and roe deer. With its network of informal paths, the Mill Field Local Nature Reserve is a great place to watch wildlife throughout the year. There is also a skate ramp and children’s play area near the main entrance to the site.

Hedgerow Training 2008
Mill Field played host to volunteer training this year, when a member of the group instructed other volunteers in the ancient art of hedge laying. All participants had a great time and felt fulfilled at the end of day two when they stood back to admire their work.
Since the training course, participants have used their skills to create more of these artistic structures on other Borough land being managed for conservation.
If you are interested in learning the art of hedge laying contact the Mill Field Group to see when their next hedge laying work party is or contact the BTCV who regularly schedule training courses.
