The group, led by Alison Kay Mosson, are a registered charity (Reg’d Charity No 1106819) carrying out conservation work in Cliddesden and the surrounding area. Last summer was spent surveying the parish hedgerows and local wildlife as part of our Parish Conservation Plan. Thanks to the generous funding and support from BDBC, October and November 2008 we saw us planting native trees on the Pensdell side of Farleigh Road leading to the village and filling out the strip of woodland bordering the road. Various British wildflower plants were incorporated into the planting along the verge. The School’s playing field now has a double line of hedging around the two sides exposed to the elements to provide shelter for both children and wildlife. The HWT Watch Group enjoyed a Saturday afternoon with us planting more trees around our Village Hall. November was the time for checking and cleaning out the birds’ nesting boxes we’ve put up throughout the village, recording any tenancies. We also sited some bat roosting boxes for our local pipistrelles. The earth bund around the village grain-dryer is now home to over 500 supplementary trees to screen the building and create another wildlife habitat. In the next few months, we will sow wildflower seed in a south-facing section of the bund left clear for insects. Please come along and join in the fun! Pond restoration at Clidesden School Tree planting week-end on Saturday and Sunday 26 and 27 September 2009. For further details, please see the information below. If you would like to help with future projects or would like information on work party and event dates please contact Alison on 01256 352900.
The work includes tree planting, hedgerow maintenance and bulb planting. They also organise educational events and excursions.
Update
A grant from The Big Lottery Fund meant the nature pond in the School’s
Wildlife Area, which had developed a leak, has had a complete makeover with a new liner, stone piles and logs, and a diverse variety of pond plants. The children are sure to enjoy pond-sipping from the restored wooden staging. Wildflowers have been planted in the nature space with flowering shrubs to attract more insects.
We are still trying to establish a greater diversity of pond plants around the village pond in spite of the sole remaining duck’s attempts to eat them all.
3CG was formed 5 years ago and this year we celebrating as we have now planted our 10,000th tree!
