Police appeal for witnesses following burglary in Basingstoke

Police in Basingstoke are appealing for information following a burglary in Hill Road, Oakley between Saturday, March 22 and Monday, March 24.

Three clocks, a computer monitor and more than 70 antique ink wells were taken from the home of an 85-year-old man who was away on holiday.

One of the clocks is a mahogany longcase country clock, which is around 8ft tall and similar in look to a grandfather clock.

PC Richard Holland, of Basingstoke police station, said: “Burglaries of this kind are rare in Oakley and this incident happened while the homeowner was away for the Easter weekend.

“We would urge anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area over the weekend to contact police as soon as possible.

“We would also like to hear from anyone who may have had suspicious callers at their door during the last two weeks.”

Anyone with information about the incident should contact PC Holland at Basingstoke police station on 0845 045 45 45 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
