Dear residents of Kempshott, The beat team has recently received a new addition in the form of PCSO Rafal Szmydynski (Raff). Raff is now a permanent fixture on the Kempshott beat as Rob has moved across to Hatch Warren leaving Kempshott with its own dedicated PCSO. Both Raff and I work together to reduce crime on the beat. Although our goal is the same our differing job descriptions provide us with a multitude of ways that any given situation or issue can be tackled. This makes our team more dynamic in the way we deal with crime and local issues. The end result of which is that you, the residents, are given a better service by your local beat team. You can see this in action in our monthly articles which will now be a joint effort with an overview of what we have been up to, followed by a police update on what I have been up to with advice on how to keep safe against the various crimes that are relevant for our beat. In addition Raff will write a PCSO overview with what he has been up to and what he is tackling in the local area. Since my last newsletter in January there have been further burglary reports in the area. The areas that have been affected are Pack Lane and the Bird estate. We have been completing patrols in the area but if you see anything that is suspicious please call the police. Several reports have been made to us about a white transit van that has been seen in the Bird estate, unfortunately we don’t have the registration number, the van’s occupants were described as wearing orange jackets. The latest incident occurred in Mallard Close, the offenders broke into the address by forcing the rear patio doors. Please check the access to the rear of your home, is the side gate locked, don’t leave tools lying around for a ‘would be’ burglar. No matter how trivial it may seem at the time, if you feel it is ‘out of the ordinary’ give us a call it may well be the difference between identifying an offender or not. We recently received a complaint of anti social behaviour in the park area at Heron Way where several young people where reported as being drunk. With half term approaching the police will be completing patrols to target anti social behaviour. Police will be looking to stop people in possession of alcohol. Do you know where your children are? If they are seen with alcohol then the police will be looking to stop and speak to them and any alcohol will then be seized, their details taken and you may well be receiving a letter in relation to their anti – social behaviour. In the worst case you could be collecting your child from the street they have been stopped in or the Police Station. A word of advice, bike thefts have increased in the area so if you have got bikes then please keep them secure. A useful tip is to take a photo of your bike and keep the details secure at home. I will now hand you over to my partner in crime (excuse the pun). Hello all, I am writing this article in order to introduce myself to you. My name is Rafal Szmydynski and I am the Police Community Support Officer for Kempshott area. I am regularly patrolling the beat on my bike and will endeavour to meet all of the residents in my patch. As Kempshott is a large area to cover the main purpose of the article is both to say hello to the many residents who I am unable to visit in person and also to give you the means to contact me either by phone or email, to make your team aware of any issues you as a resident might have or simply if you would like advice on something we can help with, or just to say hello back. What do Police Community Support Officers do? Well in a nut shell, the role of the Police Community Support Officer is to offer reassurance to the residents and general public with high visibility patrolling, give crime prevention advice whereever possible, attend community meetings, gather intelligence and work in partnership with other agencies. If we all work together we will combat anti-social behaviour within our beat. PCSO News and Views Currently Kempshott have experienced a few problems with mini-moto’s being ridden over Down Grange and Stratton Park. These riders have generally been riding without helmets on unroadworthy vehicles without any legal documentation such as insurance. I am aware that residents find this quite distressing as this is a prime location for members of the community to take part in leisure activities. PC Stockham has been successful in taking a number of these riders to court in recent months which, without the help of local residents, would have been a near impossible task. On that note if you do see these riders destroying our fields and sporting facilities please call 101 and let us know. Please do not approach or confront the riders as your safety is a priority. My main role is to tackle Anti Social Behaviour. Young people gathering in parks and communal greens to consume alcohol, swearing at each other. There is very little of this in Kempshott at the moment as the beat team have been tackling this robustly since July last year however we understand that this is still an issue which still affects some residents in the area. If you witness any of the behaviour stated above report it to us so we can target any problem areas that we are not aware of. Together with my beat manager PC Loraine Stockham, Accredited Community Safety Officer Clive Fortune and the community wardens, we patrol the beat on bikes or on foot and we will respond to your reports and challenge that kind of behaviour. As a reminder, when you go on holidays always inform your Neighbourhood Watch Scheme Coordinator and your neighbours about it. It’s always worth informing the station enquiry officer at Basingstoke Police Station about it as well, so I can conduct some extra patrols in the area. I hope that together we will continue to make Kempshott a pleasant area to live in.
