SUPPORT FOR PROPOSED CYCLE/FOOTPATH

As you may or may not know we are planning to try to get a cycle track between Oakley and Kempshott/Hatch Warren. This could provide a safe route for cyclists and walkers alike.

We have been asked by the HCC to find out what the community think of the idea and whether people agree that it is needed. We have put together some questions to establish what the extent of interest is. Please can you take a few minutes to answer the questionaire.  They are listed below or download a copy here.

  1. Do you believe that a bike track is needed?
  2. How many cyclists in your household?
  3. How often do they cycle
    1. once a year
    2. once a month
    3. once a week
    4. daily
    5. other (please explain)
  4. Would you or cyclists in your household use the route?
  5. What would be your preferred route? For example upgraded
    Pack Lane
footpath, Fuzzy drove upgraded, Fuzzy drove as it is.

  1. What would the track be used for?
    1. going to school
    2. commuting
    3. shopping
    4. keeping fit
    5. leisure
    6. other (please explain)

We would Love ...

By: Shelagh and David Cowling (Guest ) on 09-03-2008 15:49

:) We would love to have an extra walk to do.
The existing footpath to Oakley from Fuzzy Drove gets really muddy.

Proposed desecration of ancient ox drove

Proposed desecration of ancient ox drove

By: The Delve Family (Guest ) on 13-03-2008 10:30

:( We are against any route that will destroy the natural beauty of the ancient oxdrove way (fuzzy drove) to oakley (Puzzle Corner) and beyond.
This path has been in use for 100's of years by walkers and cyclists alike.
It is a 'proper' footpath, muddy in the Winter, dry in Summer with all the lumps, bumps and natural beauty of a country path.
A bit of mud never hurt anyone, and we could do without this 'bland beautification' of our countryside.
Builders tarmac over our country, and now you lot want to create a homogenised gravel path version to save your shoes, and bikes getting muddy!

Campaign for a safer cycle/footpath

Campaign for a safer cycle/footpath

By: Simon Preedy (Registered ) on 17-03-2008 12:11

I too am against the "desecration... of the ancient oxdrove way" and, imo, that route should be left alone. However, that is not the only route being proposed. It is my understanding that this campaign is for safety reasons, following the fatal accident of a young cyclist in Pack Lane last year, and not simply to save people’s “shoes, and bikes getting muddy” either!
I support this campaign and I have advised Lorna & Wendy that it is also detailed on the www.kempshott.com Messageboard too. The more bases covered, the higher the number of completed Questionnaires returned... we hope!

Hardly "Desecration"

Hardly "Desecration"

By: Don Hughes (Guest ) on 13-04-2008 13:11

Cannot agree about "desecration". The path is very poor quality and could do with a proper hardcore foundation. This could be done sympathetically, retaining the beauty of the route whilst preventing it from becoming worn out. It is a mudbath much of the year passable only by mud-loving mountain bikers and riders. As a pedestrian and casual cyclist I'd love to use the route but cannot practically as to walk I'd need Wellington Boots and since my ordinary bike is equipped with V-brakes they become clogged and immobile in just a few yards. Pack Lane has already seen deaths and is unsuitable.
