Police in Basingstoke are appealing for information to trace a man involved in a suspicious incident in the town centre on Monday, September 17. Around 4.15pm, a 12-year-old boy got off the number six bus from Winklebury at Festival Place when he was approached by a fellow passenger.
The man asked the boy to show him his mobile phone. The man told the boy he was a police officer and a conversation was had between the two before the boy reluctantly showed the man his phone. The man then apologised to the boy for scaring him and said the reason for his behaviour was that his daughter’s phone had been stolen. He told the boy his name was Matt and asked the boy his name. He shook the boy’s hand and then walked off in the direction of the cinema. The man is described as: - White
- Aged in his late 20s to early 30s
- 6ft
- Medium, muscular build
- Brown, spiky hair
- Wearing a black zip up sports jacket with white writing on the back, and blue jeans
PC Neil Hart, from Basingstoke police station, said: “This incident occurred in a busy shopping centre during the afternoon.
