Over 500 people attended last year’s show and we hope that more attend this year’s event held in the WalledGarden, Down Grange.
Although the management of the show has been transferred from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council into the private sector, the format of the show is very similar.
In the morning the Flower and Vegetable Show will be held and judged with prizes awarded for the various classes in the schedule which include both adult and children’s groups.Members of the Walled Garden Events Group Committee have been actively promoting the Show for a number of weeks and a considerable number of schedules have been handed out, including local schools.It is hoped that the competition will be well supported but if you have not yet seen a schedule please contact either Tony Spray (01256 843615) or Richard, The Editor of this magazine for further details.
Gate open to the second part of the Show at 2pm, when the ‘Gardening Roadshow’ part of the ITV/BBC open air events programme, will be hosting a ‘Gardener’s Question Time’ in a large marquee in the Walled Garden.There is an open competition to visitors where the prizes to be won at every show include Lawn Mower/Wheel Barrow/Wellingtons/Gardening Gloves and ‘Goodie Bags’
A number of local traders will have stalls offering creative arts, food, plants and lots of other interesting items.
A programme will be on sale at the entrance for £1 and will offer automatic entry to a ‘lucky programme’ draw as well as a Junior competition with cash prizes.
Finally, prior to the gates closing at , there will be an auction of plants donated by Wolverton Plants, who are the nursery sponsors to the Show.
