Get out and about for Love Parks Week |
People are being encouraged to enjoy the borough’s great outdoors during a series of events organised for this year’s Love Parks Week.
From Saturday 16 June to Sunday 24 June a number of events and activities ranging from health walks and funfairs to pond dipping and summer concerts will be held in Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s parks to support the national campaign.
Organised by parks charity GreenSpace, Love Parks Week aims to raise national and international awareness of the importance of Britain’s parks and green spaces and encourage people to get out and discover just what these fantastic places have got to offer.
Parks and open spaces including The War memorial Park, Down Grange and the Green Flag-awarded-Eastrop Park will be among those hosting events in the borough. Activities will include an obedience dog show, performances from Basingstoke Silver Band, Hannington Silver Band and the Charles Camberley Band; a series of health walks and Race for Life.
Cabinet Member for Sport and Leisure Cllr Keith Chapman said: “Our parks and open spaces are something to be proud of and people should take the opportunity to take in the impressive scenery and experience the exciting events and fun activities regularly on offer throughout the year.
“There are many benefits to visiting your local park and we are keen to support Love Parks Week to help make people aware of them. We are very lucky to have these splendid open spaces and it is important that people are aware and utilise them to help enhance their wellbeing and quality of life.”
