Police in Whitchurch are appealing for witnesses and information after an attempt was made to steal the cash box from a telephone kiosk in Overton.

At 1.40am on Saturday, April 28, a tow rope attached to a 4x4 vehicle was tied around the cash box in the kiosk outside Overton Train Station. An unsuccessful attempt was then made to drive off and pull the cash box away.

The vehicle involved is believed to be a Vauxhall 4x4 with a part registration number of ‘M5’.

PC David Bennett, of Whitchurch police station, said: “This was a very unusual attempt to steal a cash box. I would like to hear from anyone who was travelling near to Overton train station around the time of the incident and saw anything suspicious, and in particular anyone who saw a Vauxhall 4x4.”

Anyone with any information should contact PC Bennett at Whitchurch police station on 0845 045 45 45 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
