Recycling

We are generating more and more waste each year and historically we have used landfil to dispose of our waste.  But land is limited especially in the South so we have to find alternative ways of disposing of our waste.  We can burn some of our waste in modern hi-tec incinerators which can also generate electricity, such as the ones we use in Hampshire.  Unfortunatly that is only part of the solution.

The best solutions are for us to reduce the amount of waste and recycle the majority of that waste.  However there are other enviromental concerns when recycling.  It doesnt make sense to ship waste products to the other side of the world to be recyled if there no demand for the recycled product.  This happens as we do not have the facilities in the UK to recycle all of our waste products.

There is a lot of myth, and poor information about recycling.  All local councils in the UK have different recycling systems and recycle items in different ways.  The best place to obtain the information on your local recycling is from your local council (contact details available from the council page of this site).

There are a number of excellent information sites regarding recycling and these include:

www.recyclenow.com

www.recyclezone.org.uk
