Information at young people’s fingertips with website and text launch
Youthlife - a website for young people in the borough - was officially launched on Thursday 8 February, with an appeal to young people to say what they think of it and get involved with keeping it up-to-date.

The website at www.youthlife.co.uk is backed up by a text and e-mail alert service for young people bringing information about things going on in the area for them direct to their phone or computer.
News on new bands signing up for the new Basingstoke Live! music event in the summer will be among the first information sent out to those signing up for the electronic updates.

The two new initiatives are part of the work Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council has been doing with the borough’s youth council, Youth of Basingstoke and Deane (YOB).

The website and alert service will be launched by the council’s champion for young people Cllr Andrew Finney and Chair of YOB Ivy Woolridge, together with other members of the borough’s youth council.

And they will be appealing to young people to log-on to the website to tell them what they think could be done to make it better or even to volunteer to get involved with running it or writing the content.

Aimed at 11 to 19 year olds, the website has been set up by the council working closely with young people. Via the website young people can also sign up for the text and e-mail alerts. They can also text 07797 877101 to request a registration form for the service, which also gives the young people the chance to text the council with comments about the area.

Cllr Finney said: “It is vital that young people tell us what they think rather than us guessing when we are planning things for them, or that matter to them.

“I hope they take advantage of these two new channels of communication and tell us how we can make life better for them in the borough. It would be great if some of our younger residents wanted to help us improve the website by getting involved with it themselves.”

Ivy Wooldridge, Chair of YOB, said: "We are keen to get as many young people involved in YOB as possible to ensure they have a strong voice in the borough. The new website is a great way of keeping them up to date on what YOB is up to and our latest projects that they might want to get involved in. It also lets them know about meetings which they can come along to where they can give their views."
