Sign up now for green garden waste collections and do your bit to recycle more and waste less, that’s the message from Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council.
The fortnightly 2007 collection service starts on either Saturday 24 or 31 March, just as gardens across the borough spring to life and keep their owners busy gardening, mowing lawns and trimming hedges. For £28, residents who sign up to the scheme can have their green garden waste collected in a large heavy duty sack every other Saturday for 18 weeks during the peak growing season. Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Services Cllr Elaine Still said: “Residents across the borough are making a great difference to our overall recycling figures. By signing up to the opt-in green garden waste service they can do even more by getting this waste recycled instead of putting it in their grey bins. “We’re recycling 19% of our waste and we aim to reach the target of 30% by April 2008. Residents signing up to this service will help us to achieve it.” The green waste service is ideal for those residents with a garden but no space to compost or those who don’t have the time or the transport to take the garden waste to the tip. This service provides a very cost effective and environmentally friendly way to get rid of garden rubbish as the waste collected is composted. To sign up or find out more residents can either visit the website www.basingstoke.gov.uk/greenwaste or call the council on 01256 844844. |
