The Climate Change Commission will examine how Hampshire can adapt to become more resilient to the social, economic and environmental impacts of climate change. It will do this by considering evidence from a wide range of sources, learning from good practice around the world and focusing on what the County Council, and its partners can do to help Hampshire address climate change. |

Don’t waste your food – digest it |
Councillors, residents and recycling champions taking part in Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council’s pilot of ‘food digesters’ are receiving their 'Green Cones' and 'Green Johannas' this week.
As part of the borough’s bid to reduce the amount of waste it creates and recycle more, 80 participants will be testing the ‘Green Cones’ and ‘Green Johannas’ to see if they really could help residents across the borough reduce the amount of leftover and waste food they throw away. |

Funds from extra recycling to encourage more people to go green |
Improved recycling rates in Basingstoke and Deane could help to fund initiatives to get even more people recycling.
Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council receives income for the recycling collected across the borough that is sold on to make other things. For the year 2007/08 it is estimated that it will receive £114,700, which is £34,000 more than budgeted for. |

Lighter evenings mean longer hours for recycling centres |

The onset of spring brings not only lighter evenings and warmer weather but also a change to the opening hours of your local Household Recycling Centre (HRC). From 1 April, the majority of sites will again be reverting to their summer operating times and will remain open for business from 8am until 7pm, seven days a week. |

Global warming is the name given by scientists for the gradual increase in temperature of the Earth's surface that has worsened since the industrial revolution. In recent times the effect has become more noticeable. Even though there are some people who disagree there is considerable evidence that most of this warming has been caused by human activities. That is we have altered the chemical composition of the atmosphere through a buildup of greenhouse gases – primarily carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrous oxide.
