Basingstoke-Now has fought off stiff competition to scoop a top web accolade at the Hantsweb Awards 2007.

Basingstoke-Now were announced as the winner of the Best Local Area Website, category at a special award ceremony held at The Ark Conference Centre in Basingstoke.

We were nominated by our visitors who recognise the information and service we provide to the community.

New signs for motorists driving through rural areas
 

‘Gateways’ are soon to be introduced into two rural areas in the borough, as part of a road safety scheme set up by the borough council.

One of the aims of the Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council's ‘streets for people, roads for cars'’ initiative is to introduce ‘gateways', which involve enhanced signing and road markings to warn motorists that they are approaching a rural village or town.

Centre keys handed over to local community
 

The end of building work at the new Whitchurch community centre and library was celebrated when the keys were officially handed over on Friday 23rd March.

Builders Wilding Butler presented the keys to Basingstoke and Deane Borough Council, which has overseen the complex construction of the new building, designed to fit with the neighbouring listed Silk Mill.

Police recover alpacas stolen from Tunworth farm
 

Police in Whitchurch have found two baby alpacas that were stolen from a Tunwroth farm sometime between 3.30pm on Wednesday, January 10 and 7.30am on Thursday, January 11.

Officers attended the farm in Guildford Road, Pirbright, Surrey, at 10am this morning and recovered the animals.
They have been identified as the alpaca which were stolen from the Tunworth farm in January and are being returned with their owners.

Police appeal for witnesses after vehicles were broken into in Whitchurch
 

Police in Whitchurch are appealing for witnesses after a number of cars were broken into on Sunday, February 11.

The incident took place between 4.30pm and 4:45pm along the B3051 at Whitehill car park, known locally as Watership Down car park.
