Kempshott

The Kempshott section of this web-site is in association with the Kempshott Kourier and the Kempshott & District Residents Association.
Kempshott has a long history, the area dates back to the early 1700s where the Duke of Edinburgh stayed at Kempshott House and later had his honeymoon there in 1795 with Caroline of Brunswick. Kempshott House has now been demolished to make way for the M3
The estate has since developed with the creation of Homesteads Road and Kempshott Lane to generate a farming community. However, this changed quickly to aid with the London overspill and Kempshott soon became part of Basingstoke. The majority of the housing was built in the 1970s and early 1980s in three phases referred to locally as the Lakes (between Homesteads Road and Pack Lane), the Flowers (off Heather Way), and the Birds (off Kempshott Lane). There have been some newer additions most notably the Gabriel Park estate (at the end of Kempshott Lane). The main road through the estate is Kempshott Lane with Homesteads Road, Coniston Road and Heather Way forming access routes and Kestrel Road, Heron Way and Gracemere Crescent forming crescents with residential cul-de-sacs. The majority of the houses in Kempshott are larger 3,4 and 5 bedroom properties, most are detached and the area has an established feel to it.
Kempshott Infants and Junior Schools are off Homesteads Road. There is a small parade of shops off Kempshott Lane in the centre of Kempshott. These shops include a Chinese take away, an estate agents and convenience store. Opporsite this is the local public house. Kempshott has two halls one is the Kempshott Village Hall, just off Pack Lane and the other is Old Down Hall at the end of Kempshott Lane. Kempshott is served on the borough council by three councilors (Cllr Anne Court, Cllr Christine Heath and Cllr Rita Burgess) and has its own Residents association to promote the interests of Kempshott. The Kempshott and District Residents Association (KDRA) has been running for over 50 years and its aim is to protect the quality of life for the residents of Kempshott. More information on the KDRA is available from the Kempshott and District Residents Association.
The Kempshott Community receives its local information from the Kempshott Kourier magazine delivered free every month to over 3000 homes. There are a wide variety of Businesses supplying products and services to Kempshott and to the wider Basingstoke area. Many of these can be found in the Business Directory. Kempshott is an area and housing estate in Basingstoke located to the west of Pack Lane and north of Winchester Road.

KEMPSHOTT CONSERVATION GROUP - OCTOBER NEWS

Autumn is the usual time to see some interesting fungi lurking in hedgerows and woodland.  Most depend on damp conditions to grow and thrive and a spell of dry weather can limit quantities and the number of varieties on show.  Fungi play a very important part in nature’s cycle by breaking down organic matter such as dead leaf litter and animals and using it as a source of food.  Keep a good lookout as you walk around Kempshott to see what there is.

‘IT’S OFFICIAL – KEMPSHOTT INFANT SCHOOL IS OUTSTANDING’

Following our OFSTED inspection in July, we are delighted to announce that Kempshott Infant School was judged as outstanding in every area. This is a tremendous achievement which reflects the hard work and commitment of staff, governors, parents and most of all the children. We are very proud of them.

A MESSAGE FROM KEMPSHOTT’S NEW COMMUNITY WARDENS

Dear Residents of Kempshott,

A big hello to you all, Simon Christian and Sarah Ratcliff are your new Community Wardens for Kempshott and we also cover Buckskin.  Sarah has been a community warden since 2004 working in Popley and I started working in May 2006 covering Brighton Hill.

The mission of the borough community wardens is to improve the well being of local residents in designated patrol areas, by helping to make people feel safer, assisting with environmental improvements and contributing to the development of stronger more confident communities through working directly with residents in the areas we work in. We work with partners such as the police, Hampshire County Council and others to promote respect within the community and ensure that you are involved with the solutions to make your area an even better place to live. You will see us patrolling the area by foot, bike and sometimes car so feel free to stop us at any point and have a chat.

You can contact Sarah and I on 01256 845508 or at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

We both look forward to working with you.

Best wishes,
Sarah Ratcliff and Simon Christian

KEMPSHOTT WOMEN’S INSTITUTE - OCTOBER REPORT

We have been taking a break during August but we have been busy preparing our programme for 2008.  We try to cater for all tastes with as wide a variety of subjects as within our financial budget.  By the way, in the schedule set out in last months Kourier for the Kempshott Village Hall we are down as meeting on the 3rd Monday in the month.  I have been asked to point out that this should in fact be the 4th Monday in the month unless it falls on a public holiday when it is the 3rd Monday.

In 1965 the Methodist Chapel was the only church building in Kempshott.  The Church of England services were held in the Village Hall.
