KEMPSHOTT NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH |
|
The recent burglaries have renewed interest in our local Neighbourhood Watch network. There are a few schemes where there is currently no co-ordinator and I have been dropping letters off to the houses within these schemes to try and get them up and running again. I have also been approached by other residents who are interested in starting a scheme.
Starting a scheme is not too difficult. Firstly identify an area which could sensibly become a scheme, then approach the residents who live there and try to get 60% of the residents interested. Once you have this interest a meeting needs to be set up. This meeting will be attended by myself as area neighbourhood watch co-ordinator (Kempshott) and the local beat officer or representative from the Police. At this meeting you will be advised how most schemes are run and the lines of communication etc. that are involved. A co-ordinator and deputy should then be appointed. The responsibilities of a co-ordinator are not too onerous, it mainly involves passing information between scheme members and the police. Also, for example, here in Kempshott we have always held quarterly meetings for co-ordinators which are attended by our local PC, ACSOs and PCSOs. This is an opportunity to hear about what has been happening in the area since the previous meeting and also feed back any concerns from the community.
As an active scheme you will receive information from the Police, Community Safety Department at the Borough Council and co-ordinators communicate between themselves.
