Dear Residents, How did your Halloween and Bonfire night go? I believe that we have had an extremely low number of incidents this year compared to recent years and that most of you experienced little or no problems during this time. For those of you who have experienced problems in the past I am hoping that with our extra patrols and zero tolerance towards antisocial behaviour over the holiday you have all noticed a difference and again a continued drop in the amount of incidents in Kempshott. I think this run of decreased crime can both be attributed to the renewed presence of police and Pcso’s in the area working in conjunction with our accredited safety officers and community wardens’. As well as the amazing neighbourhood watch schemes up and running in the Kempshott area. Our schemes are second to none in Basingstoke and I definitely believe that this is a major factor in our continued success against crime. So for those of you already part of a scheme keep up the good work and for those of you reading this and wondering what I am talking about. Please drop me an email, letter or phone call and I would gladly go through it with you. Now for the advice:
With the dark nights now drawing in I would like you to be more cautious with your personal safety. If you are walking around late at night maybe back from the pub or a friends house I would ask you to use proper paths or main routes that are well lit as opposed to taking the short cuts you might normally take in daylight through the playing fields or unlit alley. Also as you walk keep all of your valuables out of sight, if you need to make a mobile phone call, try and use a hands free set so your phone is out of sight to those who might want a new phone at your expense. Ladies if you are anything like I was before I joined this job I would never zip up my handbag. Something I would never consider doing now. Always make sure your bag is closed and that nothing of value can be seen sticking out of it as they make great targets for any would be pick pocket, especially with Christmas shopping starting and the towns becoming busier. Vehicle crime also has a tendency to increase in these months as people begin their Christmas shopping. So if you follow these tips it will reduce your chances of being subjected to theft. If you are going Christmas shopping try not to buy too much in one go so you don’t get tempted to visit your car, drop off your goods, and carry on shopping. As there is a small chance that you might be seen to do this by an opportunistic thief resulting in your car being broken into and your presents stolen. This risk is increased if you leave your purchases out in the open for all to see. Vehicle and personal thefts are few and far between in Kempshott so I don’t want you to worry unduly but merely to give you a working knowledge the steps you can take to reduce the chances of something ever happening to you or your family. I know most, if not all of you, reading this will be saying to yourselves that you know all of this as it is just common sense. This is a friendly reminder in an effort to jog your memories so that the one occasion of complacency you could have will not occur and you will not find yourself a victim of crime. On a lighter note before I sign off I would like to congratulate Anne Court on her fortnightly youth night. For those of you that are not aware of this a voluntary youth night is held at Old Down Hall in Kempshott where between 1900-2100 there are facilities for young people to meet up, listen to music and have a burger and a can of pop on the house. This is a voluntary night and is only in place due to those people willing to volunteer their time to help run it and can I say they do a very good job at that. When Rob and I are out on patrol I make a point of speaking to most, if not all youths, I see out and about, mainly in an effort to get to know them and what they want. Most of them go to Anne’s youth night and love it as it gives them somewhere to go that keeps them off the street and they rave about the burgers For any residents who may be worried or have doubts about the night I have reviewed crime statistics and antisocial behaviour related incidents on the nights of the youth night and compared to the Friday without the night and can safely say there is no increase to the number of incidents reported and I will even go so far as to say the evening helps reduce any possible incidents as once the night is over many kids go straight home as they have met up with their mates and had a good chat at the centre and have no need to walk the estates to do it. The youths would like to see the fortnightly event move to a weekly thing. I can’t see a bad side to this as in this day and age I think it is important to give the youth of today somewhere to go and for them to be able to mix in a positive environment. However for this to happen Anne needs YOU so if you are interested in helping out please drop Anne Court an email (
