Detectives in Basingstoke are appealing for information and witnesses following an arson attack in Tadley, on Thursday, September 6.
Between 2am and 2.30am, a green BMW 328 Coupe and a white limousine, as well as the adjacent residential premises in Mulfords Hill, were damaged by fire. Officers believe the fire began inside one of the vehicles and rapidly spread to the second car and a nearby building. Investigations by the Hampshire Arson Task Force have suggested the cause of the fire was deliberate. Detective Constable Andy Walker, of Basingstoke CID, said: “We are keen to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the fire or saw anything unusual or suspicious in the Mulfords Hill area early on Thursday, September 6. “We would also like to speak to anyone who was at the nearby ESSO ‘On The Run’ garage around the time of the incident. “This is an isolated incident but early indicators suggest this was a deliberate act and the consequences could have been considerably worse given the proximity to a petrol station and several residential premises. “Thankfully, Hampshire Fire and Rescue were on scene in minutes to tackle the blaze and quickly brought it under control.” A 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson and released on bail pending further enquiries.
