Comments have been received about an Order which was published in the local press earlier this year proposing to introduce penalties to dog walkers allowing their dogs off the lead in Stratton Park.  The Order does not meet all dogs have to be kept on a lead at all times, but only when requested to do so as detailed below:-

“Notice is hereby given of the intention of Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council to introduce an order pursuant to its powers under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.

The order will take effect on 1 June 2007.

The keeping of dogs on leads by direction

The order will apply to Stratton Playing Field Buckskin Basingstoke.  The order will require people in this area to put and keep a dog on a lead when told to do so by an authorised officer.

Fixed penalty notices

Basingstoke & Deane Borough Council intends to issue fixed penalty notices to enforce the proposed dog control order above as prescribed by Section 59 of the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005.  The payment would be £80 if paid within fourteen days.  Failure to pay the fixed penalty notices may result in prosecution".
