Police appeal for witnesses after vehicles were broken into in Whitchurch

Police in Whitchurch are appealing for witnesses after a number of cars were broken into on Sunday, February 11.

The incident took place between 4.30pm and 4:45pm along the B3051 at Whitehill car park, known locally as Watership Down car park.

Several vehicles were broken into causing damage and many items were stolen from within them. Two young men were seen in the area and a light coloured Volvo was also seen.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.

PC Phillip Stinson said: “It is important that people using car parking areas remove all valuables from their vehicles and if possible take them with you. You may know that your coat does not have anything inside it but a thief does not.”

Hampshire Constabulary offers the following advice as part of its Safer Vehicles campaign:

  • Don’t leave anything in your car – if it’s not there, then it can’t be stolen.
  • Thieves aren’t picky, so don’t even leave low value items – often thieves will smash and grab first and look later to see if what they’ve stolen is valuable.
  • Don’t hide it – if you hide items under the seat or in the glove box, chances are someone will have watched you.  If you cannot avoid leaving something in your car, put it in your boot before you begin your journey.

Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Philip Stinson at Whitchurch Police Station on 0845 045 45 45, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
